Stuck in a dilemma? Ethical considerations in strategic questions? Consider a philosopher as facilitator.
Socratic dialogue is a philosophical method for working with groups on a central theme. The facilitator guides the participants to deeper insight by asking questions. The aim of the session is to gain insight and to enlarge practical wisdom of the participants. It is especially useful when a team or a project group is stuck in a dilemma or needs to find deeper insight in order to be able to make strategic decisions.
Although it is a philosphical method at heart, no prior knowledge about philosophy is required. The method focuses on what the participants bring in. The facilitator asks questions and checks argumentation.
V&V offers open entry socratic dialogues organized around a previously selected theme, or in-house socratic dialogues within an organization. In-house socratic dialogues are possible in different formats lasting an afternoon, a day to sessions of several days.
Theme examples for socratic dialogue:
- What is social entrepreneurship?
- Can we invest in conflict regions?
- What are borders of tolerance?
Are you interested in engaging in a socratic dialogue? Check to the workshop agenda to see which one are currently organized, or feel free to contact V&V for more information about in-house possibilities.
